Blue Brain Nexus

Data Management for Data-Driven Science

Neuroscience is a very big, Big Data challenge.

Neuroinformatics (the research field that focuses on organizing neuroscience data through analytical tools and computational models) is an essential aspect of the Blue Brain Project’s data-driven modelling process.

To organize, store and process the exceptionally large volumes of data in this process, the Blue Brain Nexus ecosystem was built and open sourced by Blue Brain to enable ourselves and other users, to organize and better leverage data through the use of a Knowledge Graph.

Blue Brain Nexus

Nexus Fusion

Enabling Collaborative Data and Knowledge Discovery

Fusion is our extensible web application. It hosts different apps to accommodate various use cases. It comes by default with Studios (where you work with data), Admin (for managing the Nexus instance), and will soon support Workflows to organise your data activities. It runs on top of the Delta web services, and integrates neatly with our Forge Python framework.

Nexus Forge

Building and Using Knowledge Graphs Made Easy

Knowledge Graphs are often built from heterogeneous data and knowledge (i.e. data models such as ontologies, schemas) coming from different sources and often with different formats (i.e. structured, unstructured). Nexus Forge enables data scientists, data and knowledge engineers to address these challenges by uniquely combining under a consistent and generic Python Framework all necessary components to build and search a Knowledge Graph.

Nexus Delta

Managing the Data and Knowledge Graph Lifecycle

A scalable and secure service to store and leverage all your data, neatly organised in a Knowledge Graph. It offers an API to perform all your data management operations, this way it can easily integrate with your software stack. Its advanced indexing capabilities automatically build views from your metadata.

Why Blue Brain Nexus?

1. Science-Driven

Blue Brain Nexus was developed by scientists and domain experts to handle data across all levels and scales of the brain. But, designed so that it can be applied for any kind of research or data management.

2. Reliable and Ready to go

A large organization needs a reliable data platform. That’s why we developed Nexus as an enterprise-grade system.

3. Rich Ecosystem

Users can access the full suite of open source libraries, packages, and products that support our ecosystem.

4. Versatile

Evolve your data continuously by adopting the same technologies and standards that support the world wide web.

5. Make Data Computable

Nexus makes it possible to work with data at scale. Instantiate real computable objects directly from your data, to power your research and apps.

6. Extensible

Develop your own visualization plugins, data mappers, and use server sent events to create your own integrations.
